Inter Hunt Relay

Well done to the CHPC team (Penelope Dampier, Charlie Knott, Henna Knott & Edward Monnington) who came 5th at the Inter Hunt Relay Competition at the East of England Showground on Wednesday 17th July. With scorching conditions and hard slippery ground they only narrowly missed out on a position in the quarter final but were the fastest losing team so were awarded 5th place for the hard efforts. All members of the team regularly hunt and were selected to represent the Cambridgeshire Hunt.

Well done to our second team of very young members who were narrowly beaten in the first round, they were all bitterly disappointed but hope to try again next year (Iona Sclater, Elizabeth Monnington, Scarlett Bedford & Charlotte Buchan)

The competition is great fun, two teams have to jump against each other over a course of challenging obstacles, this year they had to stop and drink a cup of water and then throw the empty cup into a bucke,t between fences three and four, if they missed, 10seconds were added to the overall time taken for the team of four to complete. They have to pass a baton usually a hunting crop at the changeover between competitors. If any jump is knocked down then 5 seconds are added to the overall time.

Next year we hope to arrange more practises as the competition can be won or lost simply on how good your hand-overs are. If you think you might be interested in having a go and you have been hunting in the preceeding season then please contact Catherine Monnington to arrange inclusion in our team practises.
